The 2016 Adidas Sickline Extreme Kayak World Championship runs from October 6 to 8 in Austria. This will be the ninth time the championship takes place on the Wellerbrücke river section in the Ötztal Valley.
The Wellerbrücke rapids are class V whitewater with many high consequence sections. This competition differs from many other whitewater events because it brings together paddlers from different disciplines—including slalom kayakers, extreme kayakers and river expedition kayakers. The head-to-head format in qualifying rounds makes the competition extremely close.
In the 2015 event Norwegian Mariann Saether won the women’s title with a time of 1:03:49, while Spain’s Gerd Serrasolses won the men’s with a time of 55.34.
