New hybrid is kayak, SUP and microskiff

Voodoo’s line of kayaks keeps expanding, this year they added the Voodoo hybrid to the family. The Voodoo is 13 feet long and 35 inches wide with a modified kayak hull and a flat open standup paddleboard deck. A large hatch in the blow allows access to the hull and another smaller hatch in the stern is in easy reach. The star of the show is Voodoo’s seat. Constructed out of beefy aluminum tubing, the seat has a base large enough to stand on and the back doubles as a leaning post. The tail hosts five PowerPole Micro mounts that can double as a base for an electric motor. Using a remote-controlled trolling motor, the rider can navigate the flats with the touch of a button. Padded deck and gear tracks make the Voodoo comfortable and convenient to rig.

We tested the Voodoo for the spring issue (https://www.rapidmedia.com/digital-editions/kayak-angler/ka-issue-35) found the molded-in skeg maintained stability but we could easily turn the boat with a SUP paddle while standing on the seat. Sit in the seat to paddle from fishing spot to fishing spot, then stand in the seat and to sight cast. The Voodoo is great where anglers are required to sight fish or stand and fish. The extra elevation on the Voodoo seat adds an advantage when looking for fish through the water. The combination is also perfect for fly fishing. The angler stands higher off the water making it easier to cast. Best of all, this hybrid is rotomolded plastic so it’s tough enough to take anywhere.
