Evoke Sequoia and Sun Dolphin Boss offer smart design at a great price

Kayak prices are coming down while the features and design are improving. Hemisphere Design House released two fishing kayaks at ICAST 2018: Sun Dolphin Boss and Evoke Sequoia 120. At $999, the Sequoia is a roto-molded kayak with high-dollar features. A padded, mesh frame seat adjusts to high, low and out of the way. We like the flat, open deck from stern to bow providing plenty of room for fishing or laying down for a duck-hunting platform. Square hatches in the bow and stern will fit fishing rods or tackle trays.

The boat has horizontal and flushmount rod holders, YakAttack gear tracks and a scupper in the center of the deck for a stake-out pole. For a lighter and simpler kayak, the Sun Dolphin Boss 12 weighs 70 pounds. The Boss is thermoformed, making it lighter than a similar sized roto-molded boat. Very similar to the Evoke Sequoia, the Boss also includes a three-level seat and open, padded cockpit. Hatches in the bow and stern allow the Boss to be packed with gear. It comes with an adjustable rod holder and two flush mounts. Priced at $599, with many of the same features as the Sequoia, the Sun Dolphin Boss is a great value.
