Kayak Distribution Launches New Mako With Splash Pedal Drive At ICAST 2018 | Kayak Angler Magazine | Rapid Media
Kayak Distribution Mako with Splash Pedal Drive Alex Traynor

a unique drive with corrosion resistant components designed for salt water

After studying photos and interviewing company sources about Kayak Distribution’s new Mako with Splash pedal drive, we were excited to see the new system at ICAST.

The Mako is KD’s big push into fishing kayaks and first pedal drive. The designers left the herd and developed a unique drive with corrosion resistant components designed to be exposed to salt water.

The drive is easy to maintain and allows the angler to switch out gears and components. They’ve designed the new Mako kayaks around the Splash.

The Mako is shaped to launch through the surf with an aggressive rocker and plenty of scuppers. We like the open bow well with a round day hatch. The stern has another well and smaller day hatch. A mesh and padded frame seat and Scotty accessories round out the rigging.

Riot has released a 10 and 12-foot model with a 14-footer in the words. The pedal system only weight eight pounds. The boats, with drive, come in at 75 pounds for the 12 and 68 for the 10. Prices are as low as the weight; the 10 is $999 and the 12 costs $1300.
