  • Account Management

    Q: How many times per year is Kayak Anger magazine published?

    A: Kayak Angler magazine is published four times a year. Subscriptions begin with the next issue of the press. Print issues will mail 4-12 weeks from receipt of order depending on the time of submission and the next print date. Release dates are March, June, August and December.

     

    Q: What is my subscription status?

    A: We will notify you when your subscription is about to expire. We send both email and print notices in advance to ensure you won't miss an issue. If you would like to renew your subscription, click here to go to our online renewal form or call our office at 1-866-709-4985. Your renewal order will be added to the end of your current subscription. If your subscription is still current and you think your issue is late or that you missed an issue? Factors such as severe weather could delay delivery of your magazine. If you have missed an issue, we may have an incorrect address on file. Please verify your address with our circulation department. If your issue is delayed more than a month please report the missed issue. Your subscription will be extended to make up for the missed issue or if you would prefer to receive a replacement issue we can check if we have any in stock.

     

    Q: How do I change my mailing address?

    Subscribers: To update your mailing address please email subscriptions@rapidmedia.com or call us at 1-866-709-4985 and we will update your address for future mailing. We print our magazine mailing labels in advance, therefore, it may take a few weeks for the change to be effective.

    ACA Member: As a membership benefit for the ACA we are provided with a new mailing list for each issue. To update your mailing address.

    Q: Why did I receive duplicate issues?

    If you are receiving duplicate issues, the first step you need to do is look at the account numbers on your magazine mailing labels. If the numbers are identical, then this is likely a one-time printing error. If the account numbers are different, then this needs to be reported to us. To report receipt of duplicate issues, please email subscriptions@rapidmedia.com or call us at 1-866-709-4985.

    Q: How do I replace a missing issue?

    If you never received a certain issue, please email subscriptions@rapidmedia.com or call us at 1-866-709-4985. If the issue is still available, we will mail you a replacement copy immediately; however, if we have run out of this issue, we will extend your subscription expiry date accordingly and promptly reply to you with our action taken.

     

    Q: What can I do about a damaged print issue?

    A: If your issue frequently arrives damaged and your mailbox is sufficiently sized, then check with the post office to see if the magazine arrives in good condition. If it does not, then please contact us by email at subscriptions@rapidmedia.com or call us at 1-866-709-4985. If this is an isolated event, you can report a damaged issue and your subscription will be extended to make up for the damaged issue. If you would prefer to receive a replacement issue, please contact us by email.

     

    Q: When will I receive my free gift?

    A: If you are to receive a free gift with a subscription promotion it should arrive 4-8 weeks from the time of the subscription was received.

     

    Q: Can I order a print issue?

    A: Yes, you can also visit our store locator to find an issue at your local newsstand or one of our pro shops. To order a print back issue call our circulation department at 1-866-709-4985. Issues are cover price + shipping.

  • Digital Magazine & App Editions

    Q: I have a print subscription, can I read back issues?

    A: Yes, we have created a Kayak Angler magazine app subscription for you and backdated it so you can read all of our back issues. Just follow the steps below to login.

     

    Q: I had an Apple or Google Play subscription with your old Kayak Angler app, will my subscription be transferred to the new Kayak Angler + app?

    A: Yes, as long as it is still current we can transfer your subscription to the new app. Please email our circulation department by email at subscriptions@rapidmedia.com. You will need to include your email and postal/zip code as well as a screenshot with proof that your subscription is still current.

     

    Q: How can I read the magazine on my Apple or Android smartphone or tablet?

    A: Just follow the steps below.

    Q: My digital edition issue is not downloading.

    A: Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network with active internet access.

    Make sure your iPad or iPhone does not go to "sleep" while your issue is downloading.

    Using your 3G, 4G, or LTE connection is not recommended.

    Make sure that you have enough free storage space on your iPad or iPhone.

     

    Q: I recently purchased a new Apple or Android smartphone or tablet. Are my issues still available to me?

    A: Yes, just sign into your account and issues coved by your subscription will be free for you to download on your new device.

     

    Q: I forgot my iTunes password.

    A: You can reset your iTunes password by clicking here.

    Kayak Angler celebrates the intersection of fishing and paddlesports, with an emphasis on hook-ups and sleigh rides from all manner of paddle- and pedal-powered sporting rides. Our scope encompasses North America and its unique regional fisheries: the Atlantic, the Pacific, the flats of the Gulf and all the vast freshwater in between. The readership ranges from first-timers on up to salt-stained hot sticks—anyone who loves to fish from a chunk of plastic or composite.

     

    Kayak Angler publishes four issues annually, in February (Spring), May (Summer) August (Fall) and November (Winter). We do most of our editorial scheduling in September for the upcoming year, but we accept submissions at any time.

     

    We welcome your contributions to Kayak Angler. We’re open to ideas, but flip through one or more of our recent issues first. It’s the best way to understand our format, subject matter and style. Obviously, we cover how to catch fish from a kayak, and that includes the always-interesting topics of fishing boats and rigging. Don’t overlook other aspects of the sport, from compelling personalities and pros, the latest news in conservation and fishing tackle, and accounts of incredible catches or pioneering trips.

     

    We are always in the market for articles that have depth, emotional impact and take-away value for the reader, complemented by striking photos.

     

    The best way to assess our interest in your idea is to send us a brief summary of your idea—a query.

     

    Submitting a Query

    We would rather read queries than completed manuscripts.

     

    Queries should present a clear and specific idea, not merely a general topic, and should reflect familiarity with the magazine’s content and tone. Be specific!

     

    We will rarely consider a story without good photos, and we will occasionally buy a story based on exceptional photos alone. So please come prepared to supply or source professional-quality, high-resolution digital images to accompany your article. Better yet, email us a few low-resolution preview images, or mail us a CD of high-res images that we can keep. See photography guidelines for more details.

     

    Please send queries by email to the address below. We do not accept queries over the phone. We will reply to your query within eight weeks if we are interested in your idea. We will not return unsolicited manuscripts or photos unless you include an SASE or return courier account number.

     

    Writers submitting story ideas should be aware that the editors at Kayak Angler may already have assigned or be working on a similar story.

     

    Before you query, carefully study several issues of Kayak Angler so you can tell us how and where your idea will fit into the magazine.

     

    Contents

    BUZZBAIT

    We are always looking for stories to fill the magazine’s introductory section. Buzzbait includes the following departments:

     

    PROFILE, a look at one of the interesting characters moving and shaking the sport. Often presented in an As Told To format with no authorial voice. 500 words.

     

    TOURNAMENTS, a section exploring the issues, trends and controversies surrounding the vibrant kayak fishing tournament scene. We do not typically cover the results of a particular event, unless they are unusually interesting or newsworthy. The focus should not be time sensitive. 500 words.

     

    CONSERVATION, a story touching on the environment and how it relates to kayak fishing. May touch on ethics, fisheries politics and access issues. 500 words.

     

    LIP GRIPPER

    Our other front of book section, Lip Gripper is skills and hardware oriented.

     

    SKILLS, a how-to focusing on essential paddling know-how such as basic strokes and self-rescue techniques. This is the only regularly scheduled department that reads like a traditional paddlesports story. The rest are fish-forward. 500 words.

     

    RIGGING, covering how to set up a kayak for fishing. Put on your best MacGyver hat and break out the tools. It’s time to go custom. 500 words.

     

    TACKLE, product profiles of the latest and greatest in rods, reels, baits and other fishing equipment. 400 words.

     

    GEAR, more on hardware, but with a how-to or trend element. Recent examples: What’s new with fishing boats; choosing the right rods for kayak fishing. 500 words.

     

    READER TIP, 80 words focusing on an easy product or rigging tweak that will pay big dividends to the reader.

     

    TACTICS, the heart of the section. Dish the details on how to catch ‘em. Must include a kayak consideration. Don’t rehash a basic boat or bank technique unless you can provide a new kayak-specific wrinkle. 400-500 words.

     

    TRAILER

    Our back page narrative essay is the place to wax poetic or regale the readership with a classic fish tale. Evoke a feeling or slap a funny bone. 600 words.

     

    FEATURES

    Our feature articles average 1,000-1,500 words in length. The graphic element is key! These highly sought-after spots must include professional-quality photography.

     

    When pitching a feature, consider if your story could be modified to fit another department of the magazine. Also consider whether you have personality profiles, tips, recipes, news or other short pieces to include as sidebars. Features include:

     

    Adventure Travel and Destination Features: Adventure writing isn’t about just any trip. It tells about an adventure—that is, an original and exciting experience, an exceptional place or an exceptional experience in a familiar place. Good adventure travel writing grips the reader with the feeling of being there and offers something—exceptional humor, a life lesson, a new outlook or deeper understanding. Likewise, destination focused pieces go beyond a mere description of a place to inspire, entertain or inform. Destination stories have a fresh angle deepened by background information and interviews with local characters.

     

    How-To Features: Delve deeper into a rigging topic or how to catch a particular kayak fishing friendly species. How-to features are broken up into text boxes and sidebars covering a variety of topics such as background, tips, gear, destinations, top 10 lists, etc.

     

    Theme Features: These features package short stories and sidebars under original themes: gear; destinations; outstanding anglers; tournament tricks;…insert your idea here.

     

    Text Submission Guidelines

    If we accept your query, please submit your completed work according to these guidelines:

     

    • Include your name, article title and word count on the first page of your submission.

     

    • Carefully check all facts and figures and spellings (names of people or products, places, scientific terms) for accuracy and be prepared to provide us with your research material and contact information for all sources.

     

    • Include a concise, 25-word biography to be published at our discretion.

     

    • Please save documents in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format (RTF) and send as an email attachment—do not paste it into the body of an email message.

     

    • Be sure to include your name, mailing address, telephone number and email address with all submissions.

     

    We will make a reasonable effort to ensure the safe return of slides, negatives and other materials that you loan to us; however, contributors are responsible for insuring these materials against loss or damage.

     

    Terms and Payment

    We expect first North American print rights to your work. Kayak Angler requires that you inform us if your submission, or any portion or concept of your submission, has been previously published or is being considered for publication elsewhere. We also require that you inform us as to any flights, accommodations, meals, etc. that were given to you free of charge as part of a familiarization or press trip.

     

    We pay contributors a pre-negotiated rate of up to $0.20 per word depending on length, content and quality. Payment is within 45 days following the release date of the issue in which the material appears. We buy first North American print rights as well as the right to reproduce the original publication by any means or technology for our promotional purposes including indefinite publication on the Internet as part of our online edition. Details are outlined in our contributor agreement.

    At Rapid Media we take the issue of privacy seriously. Rapid Media will not sell, barter or transfer any personally identifiable information obtained about our customers to a third party.

    Rapid Media is committed to maintaining the privacy, security and accuracy of the personal information it collects, uses and discloses in accordance with applicable legislation. This privacy policy is a statement of principles and guidelines concerning the protection of personal information of our individual clients, service providers and other individuals. 

    1.     Who is Rapid Media?

    Rapid Media is a paddlesports media company producing paddlesports magazines and events. Rapid Media is the publisher of print and online magazines RapidAdventure KayakKayak Angler and Canoeroots and Family Camping.

    Rapid Media produces two email newsletters: Rapid Media News and Kayak Angler News. And publishes the following websites: rapidmedia.com, rapidmag.com, adventurekayakmag.com, canoerootsmag.com, kayakanglermag.com, reelpaddlingfilmfestival.com.

    Rapid Media’s Reel Paddling Film Festival World Tour brings the world’s best paddling films to paddlers across North America and around the world.

    Rapid Media events are the way we get more paddlers on the water. Our events include the Canadian Canoe Symposium and the National Sea Kayak Symposium.

    Rapid Media's mission it to produce the best paddlesport media and events to support and grow the number of paddling enthusiasts and encourage them to PADDLE FOREVER safely and in a way that is friendly to our rivers, lakes and oceans.

    This privacy policy applies to Rapid Media’s collection, use and disclosure of personal information regarding the clients and consumers of its products and services listed above and its individual service providers.

    2.     What personal information does Rapid Media collect?

    Personal information is information about an identifiable individual.

    We retain only information you provide voluntarily. We will ask for your name, address, e-mail address, or other personal information when you register with a website, newsletter, print and digital magazine subscription or order other products or services. You may also be asked for personal information when you enter into contests or promotions sponsored by us or our partners.

    3.     What does Rapid Media do with your personal information?

    Provide the product or service or information you requested. For example, if you are a subscriber we use your information to deliver printed or online copies of your subscription as well as send you renewal notices, billing statements, special offers etc.

    To process your payment. Your credit card information is used for processing your payment. Once payments have been processed your credit card information is destroyed.

    To send you information. We may further use such information to develop and customize products or services to better meet your needs and preferences, and to offer you other products and services from Rapid Media or Rapid Media trading partners.

    Other purposes. We may use your information for circulation audits to obtain statements regarding the number of subscribers we have per publication. 

    4.     Who has access to your information?

    IN-HOUSE

    Access to your personal information is limited to Rapid Media employees who need to know your information in order to fulfill your requests for products or services.

    SERVICE PROVIDERS

    We disclose your personal information to other companies providing services on our behalf. This includes label printers, mail sort and delivery houses. We may also disclose your personal information to an organization to collect debts or to our auditors. We will only provide the information our service providers need to deliver the service and they are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.

    5.     Control of your personal information

    At Rapid Media we want you to be able to maintain control over how we use your personal information.

    You always have the option to instruct us not to use your name, address, email address etc. beyond providing you with the product or service you requested. 

    Email communications will always include an identification of the sender and an “Unsubscribe” option.

    6.   Where is your personal information stored?

    Your personal information is stored in secured locations and on encrypted servers controlled by Rapid Media located either at our offices or at the offices of our service providers. Upon request we will inform you of the existence, use and disclosure of your personal information and will give you access to that information. Access requests should be sent to our privacy officer at privacy@rapidmedia.com.

    7.   How do we protect your personal information?

    We make every reasonable effort to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of personal information under our control. Our security policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary.

    Only authorized employees and suppliers have access to your personal information. Where information is sent to a third party for processing we make sure, through our contracts with them, that all your information is kept secure. We keep your information for the time we are providing you with a product or service and for a reasonable time thereafter in the event that you wish to resume service.

    We operate secure data networks protected by industry-standard encryption and password protection systems.

    8.   Privacy and our websites 

    BROWSING

    When an individual accesses Rapid Media websites we will not know who the individual is unless a visitor enrolls for a Rapid Media service or product. We may collect information such as the type of internet browser and operating system the visitor uses, the domain name of the websites from which the visitor came, date and duration of the visit, number of visits, average time spent on our websites and pages viewed. We may use this information to measure the use of our website and to improve the functionality and content of the website.

    ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS

    Visitors may voluntarily provide personal information to us for asking questions, obtaining information, subscribing, reviewing or downloading publications, participating in contests and surveys. We may store personal information about your use of our website and the online information you have provided with other information we may have collected.

    EMAIL COMMUNICATION

    Occasionally, we may send marketing or promotional email communications to you with information that may be useful, including information about the products and services of Rapid Media and other third parties with whom we have a relationship. We will include instructions on how to unsubscribe and inform us of preferences if recipients decide they do not want to receive any future marketing or promotional emails from Rapid Media. If you send us an email message we may retain that message and your email address as well as any response we send you.

    OPINION POLLS

    Opinion polls on our websites are anonymous. We do not correlate votes submitted via such polls with names or individual email addresses unless otherwise disclosed at the point of collection. 

    SEARCHES

    For your convenience search functions are sometimes provided on our website. We keep logs of the words searched to learn more about what kind of information our visitors are seeking and thus improve our services. There is no correlation between searches and personal information. 

    HYPERLINKS

    For your convenience, Rapid Media’s websites contain hyperlinks to websites managed by third parties. By activating these hyperlinks, you will leave Rapid Media’s website for those of the third parties, which may have different privacy policies and practices than Rapid Media. Rapid Media cannot be held liable for the use of such third party websites.

    ADVERTISING TO CHILDREN

    We believe that Rapid Media’s website does not appeal directly to children of 13 years old or less. We do not knowingly direct our advertising at children under the age of 13, except as permitted by law.

    INDIVIDUALS UNDER 18

    No personal information should be submitted or posted on our websites by individuals under 18 years of age without the permission of parents or guardians.

    CHANGES TO THE PRIVACY POLICY

    Rapid Media reserves the right to modify or supplement this privacy policy at any time. If we make a change to this privacy policy, we will post such change on our websites and make such revised policy and change available upon request to Rapid Media’s privacy officer.
