This year Sausalito has been chosen as the venue for the 2016 ACA National Paddlesports Conference. Sausalito is on the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge and is known as a hip and artsy community that is a huge tourist destination with impressive views of San Francisco, Alcatraz and Angel Island just across the bay.

The main body of the conference is scheduled for November 11-13 with several pre and post events and classes. We hope to see you this fall in Sausalito and the San Francisco Bay Area for what will be one of the best conferences to date. >> www.americancanoe.org/NPC

2016 NATIONAL PADDLE SPORTS CONFERENCE SAUSALITO, CALIFORNIA

When I think of the ultimate urban paddling destination my mind instantly takes me to the San Francisco Bay Area. From flatwater paddling in the smaller estuaries and bays along populated hillsides, to lovely tours around seemingly deserted islands, all the way up to rowdy tidal currents, exhilarating tide races and rock gardens with full-on ocean conditions and respectable surf, there’s something for everyone all within an unbelievable proximity to one of America’s best-known cities. The result: a perfect set-up for a stellar paddlesports conference.

KAYAK FISHING

“In the Outdoor Foundation’s 2015 Special Report on Paddle Sports; Kayak Fishing was ranked near the top of fastest growing outdoor activities in America. With all the new paddlers on the water it is important to learn basic rules and decision making skills to stay safe and avoid accidents. The Kayak Fishing Paddle Smart WebTV Series does just that by providing need-to-know information in short but extremely entertaining videos. The series consists of 12 episodes and each episode tackles critical points to not only help make fishermen better and safer paddlers but also a few points to help paddlers become better and more successful fishermen. In addition, the series was filmed on location and has professional kayak instructors and anglers showing proper techniques, tricks and tips to ensure that new kayak anglers will have the most up to date and correct information.

The ACA’s new Paddlesports Safety Facilitator (PSF) certification program is designed primarily for staff from paddling outfitters, guide services and livery businesses.

The PSF program allows for credentialing in canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding. This one-year certification allows for the holder to facilitate the delivery of safety information for paddlers who may be renting equipment, taking a guided tour or participating in a community

event. This certification adds credibility to the holder, as well as providing official documentation of skills and experience for employers, insurance carriers or resumes.

The program has already seen success at multiple watersport outfitters, instructional businesses and guide services, local government recreation programs and community paddling clubs. For more information on this program, please visit: >> www.americancanoe.org/PSF
