Learn the paddling techniques, river reading and safety skills to enjoy canoe tripping on a wild river. In just 2 days, the rapids that were a barrier to the best places for wilderness canoeing will become your new playground.

Learn how to safely descend rapids in a loaded tandem tripping canoe and practice paddling maneuvers on the Madawaska River.  You can camp right at the site or stay at a local lodge or motel.

About the Guides

The team of Black Feather guides and instructors is exceptional. Most are Canadians with a strong background of canoe tripping and wilderness travel. They are certified by recognized accreditation bodies (e.g. Red Cross, CRCA, etc.) and they take part in annual, formal in-depth training programs. Your safety is their prime concern. They are confident, light hearted and welcoming.

Paddlers will meet at Palmer Rapids, a popular spot on the Madawaska River in Eastern Ontario.

Experienced paddlers will learn about the big picture of whitewater canoe tripping during this weekend clinic run on May 29 to 31, 2015, in co-operation with the Madawaska Kanu Centre (MKC). Practice sessions include swimming with and rescuing a fully loaded canoe, big water paddling and paddling maneuvers.

Don’t Miss

This exciting whitewater canoe clinic is located approximately 2.5 hours north of Ottawa, Canada’s Capital Region, where there is plenty to see and do before or after your adventure. 

Close to Palmer Rapids in the Ottawa Valley, you can explore Ontario’s natural underground at Bonnechere Caves, where you can take a guided tour to explore fossils and bat habitats.

Enjoy locally sourced food, drink and musical talent at the Whitewater Brewing Company in Foresters Falls on the Ottawa River.

Visit the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough.
