New, affordable pedal drive system set to hit the market this spring

At the Evoke booth during Paddlesports Retailer 2018, Paddling Magazine got a sneak peek at the brand's as-yet-unnamed new pedal drive kayak. In fact, the boat is so new, the model we saw is only the second prototype that exists.

This is Evoke's first foray into creating a pedal drive system. “People want to push how far they can go out there, and that's where the pedal drive comes in handy,” says Pete Gelesko, Evoke's head pro staffer. “I expect, one day, all fishing kayaks will have pedal drives. It'll just be standard.”

Especially appealling to anglers is the low price point for this pedal drive kayak—just $1,299 all in. It's a price point more accessible to the average fisherman than many other models featuring pedal drive systems on the the market. Evoke has kept the price low by maintaining a high-quality hull without all the bells and whistles and accessories that can raise the price, according to Gelesko. Anglers have the option to customize their kayak with anything and everything they want after purchase.

Gelesko promises the standard rudder, which is also still in its prototype phase, features excellent handling and offers tight maneuverability. “Basically, we wanted to design a boat that we wanted to paddle and fish from,” he says.

This new design from Evoke also features a cup holder, sliding seat, large tankwell, and deep accessible storage compartment. Available spring 2019.
