An upcoming expedition will see four kayakers paddle around the largest and most populous of the Greek islands

Four kayakers are preparing to circumnavigate the Greek Island of Crete.

Eric Lillstrom, William Woodward, Chris Paustian and Ryan Allen will begin paddling the 450-mile route September 20. The group expects to be on the water paddling around the most populous of the Greek Islands for four-and-a-half weeks.

Lillstrom, a guide and polar explorer, says one of the biggest strengths in terms of group dynamics is the laid back personalities of the paddlers. “That’s the most important thing I look for in team members,” he says. In the midst of preparation for their departure, Lillstrom says his favorite point on an expedition are the first few paddle strokes. “At that point all the logistics are finished.”

Throughout the expedition, the team will be photographing and interviewing residents of Crete and will be telling the story of the Greek island lifestyle and culture by engaging with the local towns, food and landscape.

While Woodward is the least experienced kayaker in the group, he is a talented lifestyle, travel and adventure photographer whose skills will help narrate the expedition.
