What is the Single Blade Symposium?
Rapid Media's Single Blade Symposium (SBS) 5 is a gathering of single blade
whitewater paddlers (solo and tandem open canoeists and C1ers) in combination with Palmer Fest with the
aim of sharing knowledge, experiences and good times on the river.
It's a weekend of on- and off-water clinics, demonstrations and general
camaraderie for open and closed boat whitewater canoeists. Originally
inspired by the C1 Concordia held in the U.S., the original SBS was
held in 2000 at the Gull River. MInden, Ontario and the 150 paddlers in attendance
considered it a huge success—in fact they are still talking about it
seven years later.
The SBS is held in conjuction with Palmer
Fest, Canada’s premier whitewater canoe and kayak festival presented
by Rapid Media and hosted at the Paddler Co-op Boathouse.
The SBS 5 offers more open canoe and C1 clinics than any other festival in the world. Daycare will
be provided so that parents can escape to the water for the action. On
Saturday evening there is a paddlers’ social including catered
barbecue, whitewater films, boat and vendor exhibits and live music. It is a celebration of the single blade and river culture.
When is the SBS?
Victoria Day long weekend, May 16-18, 2008, in conjunction with Palmer Fest, Palmer Rapids, Ontario.
