PALMER RAPIDS, ON — Earlier this week the popular canoeing website Canadian Canoe Routes was taken over by hackers. Instead of a long list of canoe topics users were presented with, " This site hacked and defaced [sic] by SLFAR. SLFAR was here. I hacked your website. If you want to take it again you must talk to me to understand one another..."
SLFAR claimed to have removed all the data from the site and was demanding the site adminstrators be in contact. If this is true canoeist could lose perhaps the largest tripping resource in the world.
MyCCR.com, as it is known, was recently acquired by the Toronto based organization, the Wilderness Canoe Association. The WCA was quick to issue this notice on the homepage of the site, "The hacker problems we have experienced today have no been resolved. The attack was a generalized attack on our host. No data has been lost or altered."
Some of the text in the hacker's message may have be Arabic. Fox is rumoured to be spinning this attack on Canada as a fear of Islam story. What better way to take down the country than tamper with canoe route information systems.
