About Me

Basic Information

  • About me

I was born on beautiful Amelia Island in Fernandina, in 1945. We came to southwest Florida when I was just a kid, and I spent my formidable years growing up on Captiva and Sanibel Islands, and Fort Myers. That was before there was even a bridge to the islands.

I left the area in June of 1964, just before the opening of the Sanibel Causeway, and had a four year career in the Air Force. From there I wound up in Auburn, where I had a career with Ampex Corp. and Metropolitan Life. With Met I took over an office in Charlotte, but circumstances and my yearning for the waters of southwest Florida brought me home, where I settle for years in Sarasota. There I had a career with GTE and was president of Rickey and Associates, Inc., and accounting and tax practice, and I also practiced before the IRS. But, it was not until I hit my early 40's that I figured out what I was supposed to be when I grew up; a fishing guide. I'm a water baby, and my first love is fishing. As a professional guide, I'm where I need to be, doing what I love. My passion is guiding people and teaching them the joys, pleasures, and techniques of fishing and kayaking, and I hope to do that until my last breath is drawn.

About Rapid Media

What began in the summer of '98 as scribbles on a bar napkin is now the world's best paddlesports media company. Rapid Media has four paddling magazines, produces an international paddling film festival, had the very first paddling and fishing magazines in iTunes, and is the official partner of both the American Canoe Association and Paddle Canada. We're proud of all this, but the real reason we're the best is because we paddle and we care.
