The catalyst for what was later to become 4x4 Kayak Fishing Adventures was formulated born as a boy in southern Michigan. I spent hours fishing for bluegills, perch, crappie & largemouth bass. It was during those early years I developed a love for fishing and small boats.

Through grade school, high school and college, I often admired the guys I saw on Saturday morning TV fishing shows. When I was 40-something, an opportunity became available to work with Hatchet Lake Lodge, located in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada. What started out by making phone calls to interested prospects eventually turned into a 20 year career.

After years of fishing for northern pike, lake trout, Arctic grayling and walleye, I took a trip to the Florida Keys for bonefish... and I caught one! After having experienced the speed and aggressive nature of saltwater species, freshwater species couldn’t hold my attention any longer.

I sold my heavy casting rods and reels, most of my spinning equipment and started my fishing life anew... with an 8-weight fly rod and reel. This eventually lead to my becoming a FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers.

I have always enjoyed small boat fishing from canoes and kayaks. When kayak fishing began to experience rapid growth in California, Texas, Florida and the East Coast, I jumped on the band wagon right away.

My previous International fishing experience led me to the conclusion it was only a matter of time before kayak fishing would become very popular at some of the best known saltwater fishing lodges in other counties.

And today 4x4Kayak Fishing Adventures is an International kayak fishing business in North America with kayak fishing destinations in Mexico, Costa Rica and Bahamas.

About Rapid Media

What began in the summer of '98 as scribbles on a bar napkin is now the world's best paddlesports media company. Rapid Media has four paddling magazines, produces an international paddling film festival, had the very first paddling and fishing magazines in iTunes, and is the official partner of both the American Canoe Association and Paddle Canada. We're proud of all this, but the real reason we're the best is because we paddle and we care.
