I was wondering if anyone has tried putting some camo vinyl on their kayak like this www.camo4u.com - aside from fishing, I also use mine for duck hunting and would like to do a camo wrap on the outside of it

i haven't tried that exact one, but a number of years ago i tried something similar. it looked okay but i didn't like the wrinkles, which seemed to be impossible to get rid of, and as it turned out it didn't like the cold either and started breaking up. with this one, they might have the cold problem fixed (i can't tell) but as for the wrinkle problem , i have thought of the answer - wax! if you wax down the yak before adding the cover you should be able to smooth it down, and eliminate the wrinkles and the wax should hold it in place, so they don't come back (smacking your fingers off of a frozen camo wrinkle wasn't my favorite thing to do!). the wax should also balance any loss of flotation from the wrap.

just my 2 cents but i hope it helped.

ps: check the wrap out under a black light. a lot of camo has brighteners that almost shine under black light and low light conditions for animals that can see into the ultra violet, like deer...i'm not sure about the ducks but i think they can see it too (they can see full color plus if i rememeber right). if it shines/glows it will only work during full daylight as camo.

Some folks have actually painted their kayaks in a camo pattern.

mine is a natural wood finish, looking like a medium oak finish. for some fish this is perfect, like most trout, chain pickeral and smallies, they think it's a log. others figure me out.

it's "interesting" after you have caught a dozen pickeral, then notice they are almost all hanging out just below the yak - not a good place for bare fingers!!!!

nice paint job w2n, it looks like the pattern for a tequila tiger by bomber - right on!

i painted one as a ghost once for fun. it looked, well, neat! it was an experiment in finishes and materials. the finish was great, the materials...failed. it was a sort of high tech presswood paneling that i found out had a problem with water, softening terribley. one day when i stood up, i left feet impressions in the bottom of the 'yak. i scrapped it as a worth while experiment and used the parts on the one i paddle now and 2 others i was working on (all still in good condition!)
