Adventure Kayak and Rapid Media's Eastern Canadian Sea Kayak Instructor is a new one-day event designed to promote the sport of sea kayaking by bringing together the most brilliant minds of sea kayak paddling instruction, frontline sea kayak instructors and industry professionals.
Sea kayak instructors from paddling associations, clubs, colleges and paddling schools are all developing great programs and innovative teaching techniques. ECSKIC brings together this awesome group of instructors in roundtable discussions, workshops and on-water clinics so they can develop and share ideas while improving their own skills, courses and programs.
ECSKIC also serves as a forum for professional development for sea kayak instructors and guides. All instructors and guides need to be up to date on the latest teaching methods and issues. They also need to be keenly aware of their influence and responsibilities to the sport and to their students. Instructors and guides are most people's first exposure to sea kayak paddling and are the most influential factor in deciding whether or not stick with it. Good instructors and guides grow paddling!
Specific goals includes:
- Provide professional development for instructors and guides including latest teaching methods and issues
- Provide a forum for sea kayak instructors and industry professionals to learn about issues regarding risk management and general safety
- To share and develop strategies used to increase participation in sea kayaking
- To gather leaders in sea kayak instruction and provide a venue for networking
- Provide an opportunity for instructors to recertify with their affiliated paddling organization
