About CWIC
Rapid Media's Canadian Whitewater Instructor Conference is a new two-day event designed to promote the sports of whitewater canoeing and kayaking by bringing together the most brilliant minds of whitewater paddling instruction, frontline whitewater instructors and industry professionals.
Whitewater instructors from whitewater paddling associations, clubs, colleges and paddling schools are all developing great programs and innovative teaching techniques. CWIC brings together this awesome group of instructors in roundtable discussions, workshops and on-water clinics so they can develop and share ideas while improving their own skills, courses and programs.
CWIC also serves as a forum for professional development for whitewater canoe and kayak instructors. All instructors need to be up to date on the latest teaching methods and issues. They also need to be keenly aware of their influence and responsibilities to the sport and to their students. Instructors are most people's first exposure to whitewater paddling and are the most influential factor in deciding whether or not stick with it-good instructors grow paddling!
Specific goals includes:
Provide professional development for instructors including latest teaching methods and issues
Provide a forum for whitewater paddling instructors and industry professionals to learn about issues regarding risk management and general safety
To share and develop strategies used to increase participation in whitewater paddling
To gather leaders in whitewater paddling instruction and provide a venue for networking
Provide an opportunity for instructors to recertify with their affiliated paddling organization
Conference highlights:
Keynote speaker Kent Ford. Kent has 20 years of experience teaching paddling, international whitewater racing (including World Championship titles), coaching for the US Team, and working as public address announcer at the last three Olympic Games.
