About the West Coast Sea Kayak Instructor Conference
MAY 13-15, 2007
Thetis Island, British Columbia
Rapid Media's and Adventure Kayak magazine's West Coast Sea Kayak Instructor Conference is a new two-day event designed to promote the sport of sea kayaking by bringing together the most brilliant minds of paddling instruction, guiding, and training programs.
Sea kayak instructors from paddling associations, clubs, colleges and paddling schools are all developing great programs and innovative teaching techniques. WCSKIC brings together this awesome group of instructors in roundtable discussions, workshops and on-water clinics so they can develop and share ideas while improving their own skills, courses and programs.
WCSKIC also serves as a forum for professional development for sea kayak instructors. All instructors need to be up to date on the latest teaching methods and issues. They also need to be keenly aware of their influence and responsibilities to the sport and to their students. Instructors are most people's first exposure to sea kayaking and are the most influential factor in deciding whether or not people stick with it-good instructors and guides grow paddling!
Specific goals includes:
Provide professional development for instructors including latest teaching methods and issues
Provide a forum for sea kayak instructors and industry professionals to learn about issues regarding risk management and general safety
To share and develop strategies used to increase participation in sea kayaking
To gather leaders in sea kayak instruction and provide a venue for networking
Provide an opportunity for instructors and guides to recertify with their affiliated paddling organization
