ONTARIO CANADA FLOTILLA 2008
Date: Sunday 24 August to Saturday 30 August 2008 @ Chaffeys Lock, Rideau
Canal, Ontario, Canada. It is a fun-filled, casual gathering of folding
kayak kayakers (Folboters, Feathercrafters, Nautiraiders, Kleepers,
etc.,) and even hardshellers and inflatables.
This 7-day event is held every two years.
Come for the week, or a few days … whatever. There is no official
organizer. Each paddler is responsible for his or her own preparation,
knowledge, safety and enjoyment. Be sure your kit includes a PFD,
bailer, whistle, throw rope, and spare paddle.
There are plenty of nearby inexpensive hotels, B&Bs, trailer
parks close at hand … and camping right on the locks (with clean
bathrooms and hot running water) for only about $10 Cdn a night.
We take day trips and 1/2-day trips north and south through some of the
prettiest string of lakes this side of heaven. We also spent a lot of
time just yarning and yakking about our trips and gear.
This year we will have a pot-luck opening BBQ lunch on Sunday 24 August
at Chaffeys Lock (or maybe a paddle/picnic to somewhere) and a pot-luck
BBQ closing dinner on Friday at some place to be decided during the
event.
Directions: You take Highway 15 north from Kingston on Lake Ontario until you see
Highway 37 (County Road 9) on your west (left) side. Then drive west on
37 for a few clicks and you are there. Driving south from Ottawa, the
turn-off onto Highway 37 is on your west (right).
