| A
skills-based sea kayak symposium hosted by Skamokawa Center and
Columbia River Kayaking. Two days of on-water classes for all levels
are followed by some rousing and skill-building kayak games. Top it off
with a day trip designed to challenge those new skills, all presented
by a dozen of the nations top kayak coaches and locally knowledgeable
guides. The Lower Columbia River is up to 8 miles across, studded with
islands, tidally influenced, home to two National Wildlife Refuges and
lots of wildlife, which make it the perfect kayaking classroom.
Protected sloughs open into exciting channels, and culminate at the
legendary Mouth of the Columbia. LoCo Roundup is based on Puget Island
in the middle of the Columbia River an hour and a half NW (downriver)
from Portland, OR, at Slow Boat Farm. Camping, lodging, and naturally
raised local produce and meat are available. LoCo Roundup features
evening programs, music, and good fun. Registration is now open, and
limited to 60 participants. A week of British Canoe Union trainings and
assessments precedes the LoCo Roundup.
